“I’m here working on [a] new album and new TWENTY88, me and Jhené,”
In 2016, the on-and-off couple dropped a smash collaborative EP titled TWENTY88, which is still heavily discussed 'masterpiece' among fans. The on talk has often lead to people wondering if a sequel would ever materialize, especially after rumors began circulating after videos surfaced of Sean and Jhené in the studio together as we've previously reported. The speculation can cease because it's looking like the case for TWENTY88 Pt. 2 may be coming to a deliberation sooner rather than later.
On Thursday (February 3), Big Sean joined Queen Naija on Instagram Live to talk about their new collaboration, “Hate Our Love,” but also shed some light on the forthcoming collaborative project with Jhené. When Naija asked what he was working on, Sean Don dropped the news with no hesitation.
“I’m here working on [a] new album and new TWENTY88, me and Jhené,” the Detroit rapper said with a grin. “Shit, we’ve been working on it for a little bit… It’s coming along good, though.”
Big Sean and Jhené Aiko’s first TWENTY88 project debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200, selling 40,000 copies in its first week. The eight-track effort boasted guest appearances from legendary R&B duo K-Ci & JoJo, as well as producer/singer Detail.
During an appearance on Ebro In The Morning in 2020, Big Sean spoke about his desire to make another album with Jhené Aiko, who he described as one of the “easiest” people to work with.
“Yeah, I hope so,” he said when asked if the duo would ever make another project. “Collabing with [Jhené] is like one of the easiest things ever, you know? When we both are in a mood, you know? ‘Cause when you in a relationship, too, sometimes you can be irritated with each other.”
Take a moment to venture back to 2016 and revisit TWENTY88 below.
