Long-running Cartoon Network show Teen Titans Go! will reintroduce De La Soul in season eight of the action-packed series.
De La Soul is making their cartoon return to Cartoon Network favorite Teen Titans Go! During the “Cartoon Network: Winner Takes All” panel at San Diego Comic-Con, it was announced that the legendary rap trio will star in season eight of the series for a follow-up guest appearance, after first making a cameo in season six episode “Don’t Press Play.”
In “Don’t Press Play,” group members Posdnuos, Dave “Trugoy the Dove” Jolicoeur, and Maseo appeared as themselves in cartoon form, receiving help from the Titans after their music was stolen by an alien. The episode was full of reference’s to the group’s catalog, which still has yet to be released to streaming platforms. However, in 2021, independent music company Reservoir Media purchased the group’s former label Tommy Boy Records for $100 million, providing De La Soul with masters to their catalog. Six of their albums were released on Tommy Boy Records, including their 1989 debut 3 Feet High and Rising. The group has since promised to release their music to streaming platforms, according to Rolling Stone.
“We’re thrilled” said Trugoy about the catalog purchase in a statement last year. “We have come to a deal between ourselves and Reservoir to release our music in 2021 — our catalog will be released this year, we are working diligently with the good folks at Reservoir, and we sat down with them and got it done pretty quickly actually. Our music will be released in 2021 on all streaming platforms — we’re trying to get the whole catalog out there. It’ll take a minute… a little minute… November.”
While November 2021 has came and went, the group’s 2004 album The Grind Date and 2016’s and the Anonymous Nobody… are available on streaming platforms.
