On what would have been his 37th birthday, Nipsey Hussle was posthumously honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
As previously reported, the late and great Nipsey Hussle has etched his name into the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Additionally, a proclamation was announced making Aug. 15 Nipsey Hussle Day in the City of Los Angeles.
Monday’s ceremony, available to watch below, saw Nipsey being honored with what marked the 2,729th star in the recording category on the Walk of Fame. At one point during the ceremony, attendees broke out into song to wish Nipsey a happy birthday.
Among those in attendance were Big Boi, Isaiah Thomas, Roddy Ricch, Russell Westbrook, YG, and Lauren London. The latter also addressed the crowd, saying Nipsey “would have been honored” by this special moment.
“I think he would want everyone to remember that you can’t get to what’s possible unless you commit to moving forward,” London said Monday. “That doesn’t mean forgetting where you come from but it requires acknowledging the reality you were born into and the power you have to change that reality for the better. So whenever you’re in the City of Angels and you see this star, I hope it encourages you to break away from whatever might be holding you back and for you to run your marathon until God says that it’s finished.”
Later in the ceremony, Marqueece Harris-Dawson—who represents an area including Crenshaw and Slauson on the Los Angeles City Council—unveiled a proclamation making Aug. 15 Nipsey Hussle Day in the city. A copy of the associated document was also presented to Nipsey’s family.
