Produced by English musician Inflo, new three-part Sault song Angel follows their latest album, Air, which was released in April.
British group Sault is back with new music. On Monday (October 10), the soul outfit returned with new three-part song “Angel,” which spans 10 minutes and 10 seconds. Produced by English musician Inflo, the song features contributions from Jack Peñate and Chronixx. The song follows Sault’s latest album, Air, which released in April.
“Rebel is a, rebel is a, rebel on the block/ In it for life, no turning back,” the group sings on the ballad. In three parts, “Angel” chronicles a “rebel in the streets” finding their way to Zion.
The group began in 2019 with projects 5 and 7, followed by Untitled (Black Is) and Untitled (Rise) in 2020 to soundtrack racial unrest. In 2021, Sault released their critically-acclaimed album, Nine, which was only available for 99 days. Mysterious in their approach, the group members’ names are unknown, although its speculated that they’re from London, as Inflo has collaborated with Little Simz, Cleo Sol, Michael Kiwanuka and other UK acts.
“I just think some people don’t like to be in the eye,” Simz told NME about Inflo in 2021. “Some people just want to make their art in quiet and don’t want interviews or shoots, and that’s cool. Music means something different for everyone, so you just have to respect it. He still gives you [the chance] to hear his art and his name rings in that he’s been part of amazing projects”.
