WE CONCUR: Martin Lawrence Doesn’t Think That ‘Martin’ Should Be Rebooted

On The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Martin Lawrence said Martin was “like catching lightning in a bottle” and couldn’t be redone.

Don’t count on a Martin reboot anytime soon. While stopping by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, legendary comedian and actor Martin Lawrence addressed rumors about his ’90s sitcom having a reboot. The appearance comes just weeks after the Martin reunion premiered on BET+.

First asked about the reunion, Lawrence said it was a positive experience.

“It felt great, man, just to see ‘em again and get back together,” Lawrence said. “It felt like we was going back to work. The only thing that was missing was our brother Tommy Ford but we got to honor him in the right way.”

Martin: The Reunion featured the original main cast, including Lawrence, Tisha Campbell, Tichina Arnold and Carl Anthony Payne II. Thomas Mikel Ford, who played Tommy on the series, died in 2016 from a ruptured abdominal aneurysm. He was 52-years-old.

Elsewhere in the interview, Lawrence shared that he’d be open to the possibility of acting alongside his former cast again, but doesn’t think that a reboot is in the cards.

“I think, well, you know, the Martin show was like catching lightning in a bottle and I don’t think we can redo that again,” he said. “I wouldn’t mind working with the cast again on something but I don’t think we can do that again.”

Campbell echoed Lawrences sentiment while recently speaking with Entertainment Tonight, addressing the absence of Ford.

“We would miss him so much,” Campbell said. “Well never say never, like Martin [Lawrence] says, but it’s just too hard to see ourselves without him.”

Martin: The Reunion is available to stream on BET+.
